Hong Kong born pianist and Young Steinway Artist, Wai Yin obtained her Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honours from the HKAPA under Prof. Gabriel Kwok and was awarded a full scholarship by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund to pursue her Master Degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University under Prof. Boris Slutsky. Later on she was awarded a full scholarship by the Yale University School of Music and obtained the Artist Diploma under Prof. Boris Berman.
Wai Yin has been the recipient of many international awards: she was the youngest First Prize Winner of the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition in Australia together with a Special Prize in Best Performance of Chopin Etudes； Second Prize Winner of the 17th Hilton Head International Piano Competition in USA； The youngest Gold Medal winner in the 7th International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz held in Ukraine, together with five Special Prizes, including “Special Character and Creativity in playing”, “Best Performance with Orchestra”, “Best Performance of a Work by a Ukraine Composer”.
Wai Yin has given numerous recitals including solo recital at the 39th Hong Kong Arts Festival, the Opening Recital of the Newport International Festival in USA and Piano Recital for the Enchanting Series. She performed at the Carnegie Hall of USA as well as in the Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam. Wai Yin has also collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra with Edo de Waart; Hong Kong Sinfonietta; Yale Philharmonic; Macao Orchestra; Canberra Symphony Orchestra in Australia.
In 2011, she received the Hong Kong Asian Cultural Council Scholarship to study at the Aspen Music Summer School and in 2015 received the Lady Fung Music Fellowship to support her further study in US. She was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Hong Kong Government in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the promotion of international arts and culture activities.
